A Couple Is Leaving Free Books In The Delhi Metro For Strangers. Bibliophiles Can Run, NOW!

I have a lot of friends but none like the book on my bedstand (which changes every week). Blame it on my un-socialness in social situations or the habit of staying in the company of a genius that is me (JK. No, I’m not), books are the only place I find solace in. But that doesn’t happen in every place because the genius is a forgetful one, forgetting to carry her night’s read when she leaves in the morning.

But not anymore. Not anymore, courtesy- a very generous couple from Delhi who has turned God(s) for bibliophiles on the go.

Meet Shruti Sharma and Tarun Chauhan, a writer and a civil engineer respectively, who are leaving books on the Delhi metro for passengers to find, read and return, for FREE!

They do it through their non-profit initiative, Books On The Delhi Metro, a mobile library that is inspired by the noble deed of Emma Watson dropping books for Books On The Subway.

How do you find them? Easy, Shruti leaves clues on various social media platforms as to where the books have been left (metro line and station). You just have to solve these and find your prizes to take them on a ride. But you gotta return it, leave it back in the metro for others like you, to read!

Until now, the initiative has left Jhumpa Lahiri’s ‘Namesake’, the entire Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle and Cecelia Ahern’s ‘The Year I Met You’.

Isn’t it jut wonderful? Makes me more pumped to take the public transport now! Hopefully, there will be more following suit. Until then, read and return, Delhi!
