The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Food is an essential part of our lives and there is hardly anyone who doesn’t love or appreciate good food.
Most restaurants often try to serve us new and exciting dishes. And often it is this passion that leads them to create some of our favorite dishes.
Here is a list of some of our most loved dishes and the place where they were born.
1. Kathi Roll – Nizam’s, Kolkata
Kathi Rolls are famous all over the country. It is said that it was during the 1930’s that they first started making Kathi rolls. Nizam’s is also famous for its biryani.
2. Chocolate chip cookies – Toll House Inn, Massachusetts
They were first made by a person called Ruth Graves Wakefield when she added pieces of chocolates to her cookie batter, hoping that it would melt and change the color of the batter.
The pieces didn’t melt and instead gave birth to our favorite chocolate chip cookies.
3. Crêpe Suzette – Cafe de Paris, Monaco
Henri Charpentier once accidentally burnt the sauce for crêpes he was supposed to serve the then Prince of Wales. The prince loved it so much that he asked the chief to name the dish after his companion.
4. Potato Chips – Â Moon’s Lake House, New York
Chief George Crum is widely accepted as the inventor of this famous food item. Apparently, one day a customer complained that his potato chips were too thick so he decided to him serve him something that he had never had before.
5. Rosogolla – Nobin Chandra Das and Sons, Kolkata
Even till this date, there is a lot of controversies about who actually invented the rosogolla. According to some, the sweet was first invented in Orissa and Nobin Chandra Das only perfected it. Nonetheless, if you ever visit the shop, you find the words inventor of rosogolla written outside the shop.
6. Nachos – Victory club, Piedras Negras
It was invented by a man called Ignacio Nacho Anaya. One day 10 hungry women came to his restaurant and he couldn’t understand what to serve them. So he tried to improvise and Nachos were born.
7. Hamburgers – Louis’ Lunch, Connecticut
This place in the United States claims to be the first restaurant to serve hamburgers. The restaurant is also one of the oldest restaurants in the area.
It is also one of the first places to serve steak sandwiches.
8. Pina Colada – Barrachina, Puerto Rico
The iconic cocktail was invented by Don Ramon. He invented the drink while he was working as the main bartender at the restaurant.
9. Buffalo Chicken wings – Anchor Bar, Buffalo
Today, Buffalo chicken wings are famous all over the world. Â It was invented almost fifty years ago when a lady called Teressa Bellissimo, wanted to feed her son’s friends something new and exciting.
10. Cheesesteaks – Pat’s King of Steaks, Philadelphia
This place is responsible for making cheesesteaks popular not only in Philadelphia, but around the world. Today, the iconic restaurant faces exciting competition from its neighbor the Geno’s Steaks.
11. Butter Chicken – Moti Mahal, Delhi
Though widely debated, yet this place in Delhi, claims to be the first restaurant to serve the iconic butter chicken.
They are also one of the first Indian restaurants to serve Tandoori Chicken.
12. Vada pav – Outside Dadar Railway Station, Mumbai
The iconic street snack was first founded by a guy called Ashok Vaidya. Even today, you can spot his stall outside the station. The stall is now run by his family.
Well, thanks to these places, today we have some of our most loved dishes.
