Despite its star cast and wonderful visuals, ‘Fighter’ has had a lukewarm response at the box office. A lot was expected out of Siddharth Anand, the director of the film, because he earlier last year delivered ‘Pathaan’ which was a massive box office success. ‘Fighter’ features Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor among others and had a very promising first look. But alas, it was a disappointment at the box office.

Siddharth Anand, in an interview, tried to reason why the film didn’t work as well as he hoped it would. However, his reasoning was very flawed and ridiculous. He said the film didn’t work because 90% of Indians haven’t been to airports and they do not understand how exhilarating air action is.
“There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this was a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect. But once you enter the theatre, you realise this is such a basic film,” he said.
