Daughter Replaces Family Photos With Crayon Drawings, Parents Take 11 Days To Notice

Most of us are efficiently using our quarantine time by doing all the things that we never could because of the busy life we had before coronavirus. However, with so much time at hand, one is bound to be bored easily. That’s when Kristen Vogler, 29, from Massachusetts, decided to bring back some humour in her life by playing a prank on her parents.

Kristen, who is spending her lockdown time with her parents Paula and Mike, planned on replacing the family photos on their living room wall with crayon drawings, reports The Sun.

The idea to surprise her parents with her creative artwork struck her when her younger sister told her about a prank someone pulled that involved replacing family photos with Nicolas Cage. Since she had a box of crayons and an ample amount of time, Kristen decided to draw the portraits herself.

The beginning, just a normal photo wall of memories.

She started creating the drawings when her family were out on their daily walks. Every day she would replace the original photos with a ‘new, and terrible, crayon drawing’ without anyone noticing them. Kristen was shocked when she managed to keep it going for 11 days.

“It was so funny because they walk through the door next to the photos probably five of six times per day.”

“It was hard to keep it up without giving it away,” Mirror Online reported her saying.

She then took to social media and shared the entire process.

A graphic designer by profession, she shared how she would poorly recreate the framed photos on their wall with some crayons.

Day 1. The first crayon drawing is placed, bets were made on how many photos and how long it would take them to notice.

On day 2, she FaceTimed with her grandparents, the subjects of her first crayon masterpiece.

Day 2. After FaceTiming with my grandparents (the subjects of my first crayon replica) for an hour near this wall, I decided to add another piece while my parents took a walk.

The next day she decided to add the artwork while they went for a walk which according to her was her ‘best work’.

Day 3. Up to three crayon artworks now and still not even a glance. That door on the left? It’s used multiple times a day.

She would sneak the ‘masterpieces’ in the bathroom clutching the frames multiple times.

Day 4. Thought I would get caught today. I had been posting on Twitter about my progress and my mom chose today to try…

Here’s how the next few days looked like:

Day 5. At this point it was getting harder to pick photos I thought weren’t noticeable plus I felt like I smelled like crayons constantly.

Day 6. After getting a ton of rain for days I was needing to get sneakier to be able to add these to the wall. I think today I convinced my mom to go for a run before it rained haha.

Day 7. Today was a twofer with these classic Christmas photos. At this point I was starting to think I should have guessed based on weeks and not days for how long it would take them to notice.

Day 8. I legit did not think I would get this far, but here we are.

Day 9. Only three left to go before my work is complete. I should probably take a moment to apologize to my art teachers. You tried really hard to teach me to draw people, and this is what I’ve done.

Day 10. Happy Easter. My mom was nice enough to hide Easter eggs for me, in return I did this to the photo of her first born.

On the 11th day of replacing the photos, she thought she was finally caught.

“I thought the jig was up today when my dad came running downstairs while I hung my latest crayon replica but I managed to get it done in time.”

Day 11. I almost got caught hanging this one up. Had to hide in the bathroom but they still didn’t notice.

However, later that day, her mom noticed that something was up with the portraits. “We were in the house and it was raining like crazy, we were just looking out of the window and my mum walked past the photos, did a double-take and just said ‘what is that?’,” she shared.

And once they found out that their photo gallery was messed up, they couldn’t stop laughing. “They had a good laugh about it but of course my dad said he’d always known in the back of his mind.”

Day 11 – 7 hours later. I heard the initial “wait… what” and went running over in time to capture this moment. I like to think they noticed because I replaced my senior photo and of course they look at the picture of their favorite daughter the most right?

Kristen further said that the pranks have helped them to stay motivated during the pandemic, “When you’re stuck inside day after day it does get boring so you need something to change it up. I do enjoy pranks,” she adds.
