No it’s not. Facebook will not be introducing a dislike button.
Facebook CEO Â Mark Zuckerberg has announced that they will soon launch a button which would be an alternative to liking a post.
After the iconic like-button that was introduced in the year 2009, now an alternative button would be launched. In a QnA session held in Menlo Park, California, Mark said that the button would be used to express empathy.
He further said,
However, they fear the extreme consequences.
Mark Zuckerberg also expressed the ugly side of this. There would be times when clicking on dislike button would be insensitive.
Prof Andrea Forte, who is an expert in social and participatory media at Drexel University, has expressed that people may use a dislike button to express their negative emotions (mild disapproval) but she believes that people won’t use the button to express disapproval towards their friends’ pictures of dogs, wedding or cooking experiments that people usually flaunt on Facebook.
UPDATE: According to TechCrunch, Facebook is building an Empathy button which would be more like a SORRY button. The button would enable the Facebook user to express empathy for the tragic loss of loved ones, human beings, or tragedies.
It won’t be a DISLIKE button as people are thinking. Why? Because people will vote up or down a person’s post and it will result into a forum that is not acceptable.
Well, we can only see what would the outcome be if this button really comes up and if there are any demurring consequences. Let’s hope for the best.
