Ellen DeGeneres’ Twitter Record Is Hanging In The Balance And She Needs Your Help To Save It

Ellen DeGeneres is fun, right? We have watched countless of her shows, having hilarious interactions with our favourite celebs, from Kunal Nayyar and Deepika Padukone to Priyanka Chopra and Dev Patel.

But this time, the TV superstar needs our help and I’ll tell you what you need to do, but let’s catch-up on the backstory a little.

Last week, Carter Wilkerson, from the United States asked fast food chain ‘Wendy’s’ the number of retweets it would take for them to give him free chicken nuggets for a year. Playing smart, Wendy’s gave him a very difficult target.

Now, Twitter has 313 million monthly active users, that means Carter needs a little more than five percent of the entire Twitterverse to get him his reward. But here’s where the story takes a twist.

Currently, the most retweeted tweet ever is the famous ‘Ellen DeGeneres groupfie’ that she took during the 2014 Oscars with 3.3 million retweets. The picture features Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Brad Pitt, to name a few.

If Carter succeeds in getting 18 million retweets, it’d mean that he’d break Ellen’s record with a ‘more than fair’ margin and she really doesn’t want that to happen.

So, hosting her show on Friday, Ellen mentioned Carter and the retweet challenge, issuing him a warning.

What else, she also shot a Public Service Announcement (PSA) with Bradley Cooper, where they explained the ordeal they had to go through to take that epic selfie.

However, Ellen, being Ellen, does not want to come in between a guy and his chicken nuggets. She asked people who retweet ‘nugget kid’ to also retweet her selfie.

Meanwhile, Wendy’s jumped in on the game again, announcing that if Carter beats Ellen’s retweet record, they’ll offer $100 thousand (₹ 64.46 lakhs) to charity.

Here’s the video of Ellen’s show and the PSA, uploaded by TheEllenShow.

So what are you waiting for, start retweeting!
