There is no doubt over the fact that domestic violence is a cruel reality in modern India. While the women and the children of the country are the victims in most cases, we have failed to analyse and act against such brutal crimes.
As we speak, we have a similar incident which highlights the torture that is frequent in several Indian homes.
In an incident that took place in Kolkata, an elderly woman named Yashoda Paul was physically thrashed by her daughter in law. Her fault? Picking flowers.
The entire video was filmed by a neighbour, where the lady can be seen screaming and beating the old, helpless woman with bare hands. The episode took place in Kolkata’s Bansdroni area.
Disgusted by the assault and concerned about the weakness of the old woman, people took to Facebook and share the video. They also urged the Kolkata Police to take immediate action.

We should be thankful to the neighbours for reporting the case immediately for these cases needs to be handled strictly by the government. It is by controlling these factors that we can strive towards a non-violent country.
