There was once an anda chor. His funda was to steal from a rival so he could further his own business. But then his plan got foiled and now he’s behind bars, probably still dreaming off eggs! Before you tell me that this sounds like a botched up plot of Andaz Apna Apna, hold up! This legit happened!
In the wee hours of Tuesday, the accused and his three associates hijacked a truck loaded with 1.41 lakh eggs in Mumbai’s Ambernath area.
The accused himself is an egg distributer and his plan was to steal the truck, thereby thwarting a rival’s business.
He and his three accomplices overtook the truck in a car and made it stop near Green City, in Ambernath East. They dragged the driver out and beat him up. The rival’s son was also in the truck, and he too was beaten.
Eventually, the accused abandoned both the men near Titwala, taking control of the truck which contained 1.41 lakh eggs worth Rs 5,00,000 (4,700 trays), Rs 2,000 cash and the driver’s phone and fled. The truck itself was worth Rs 5,00,000.
The driver immediately filed a police complaint, following which crime branch officials began investigating the case, leading to the successful arrest of the main accused.
Mid-day quoted Crime Branch DCP Deepak Devraj saying,
“Our team who scoured CCTV footage and also got tip-offs from sources, learnt that one of the accused in the robbery, Sadat, was a resident of Bhiwandi. We caught him and have started the search for his associates. We have recovered 1,16,000 eggs as the rest have been sold in the market. Our investigation is going on.”
All’s well that ends well, we’d say.
But we can’t help but connect this somehow to the classic ‘Humara Bajaj’ scene from Andaz Apna Apna, where Shyam Gopal Bajaj aka Teja tells his twin brother Ram Gopal Bajaj about his dream to own a poultry farm!

Who knows, maybe the egg distributor got this criminal idea from a reel-life criminal like Teja! Maybe even he wanted to be “Bread ka badshah and Omelette ka Raja“! But just like in the movie, neither his associates nor his mark could make his dream come true and they both landed behind bas.
Moral of the story: As the wise Ram Gopal Bajaj implied, you cannot build a successful business involving eggs with someone else’s mehnat ka paisa!
