Calling your husband names, and especially ‘Mota Haathi’ may not be the wisest thing to do after Delhi High Court’s latest ruling out.
According to the Delhi HC, calling your husband ‘Mota Haathi’ or ‘Fat Elephant’ can be grounds for filing a divorce.
That’s right.
All this was a result of a Delhi-based businessman, whose divorce plea was upheld by the Delhi HC who faced constant harassment and torment from his wife due to him weighing 100 kgs and being incapable of satisfying her sexually.
Justice Vipin Sanghi says,”The calling of names and hurling of abuses such as ‘Hathi’, ‘Mota Hathi’ by the appellant in respect of her husband – even if he was overweight, is bound to strike at his self-respect and self-esteem. Obviously, the respondent was sensitive to such taunts, and it is not the appellant’s case that the taunts were made jokingly, or out of love and affection, and without malice.”
He also added, “It has come on record that she taunted the respondent for not being able to satiate her sexual desire on account of his being heavyweight. It has also come on record that she not only slapped the respondent but asked him to leave the house. She also caught hold of kerosene can and opened its lid threatening the respondent that she would immolate herself and implicate the respondent and his family in a dowry case”.
The husband spoke out to the media only on condition of anonymity and said he had been facing the torments for 6 years of their marriage.
They have a 10-year-old son together and the fate of this couple is yet to be decided.
Now you will think twice before calling your husband any names, even if it is affectionately. Your affections may not be received with the same sentiments.
