Our generation has become so numb to violence that probably the word ‘extreme’ is losing its importance. The world is turning into a dreadful place not only for the adults but also for the children. Young, innocent, school going children. Believe me or not, and this story will prove my stand.
In a traumatic video that went viral, a school boy from Pathway school in Noida is seen being tightly slapped by a fellow classmate. This resulted in 25 percent hearing loss for the innocent one.
The clip was uploaded as a Snapchat story by 4-5 other boys who were present at the scenario. It showed the accused school boy carrying out the cold hearted action on the account of a slap bet. Very soon, the video went viral and the boy suffered a huge trauma because of it.
For those who don’t know, a slap bet is like any regular bet, only with a shocking twist. It allows the winner to slap the loser as hard as they want.
As soon as the victim narrated the torture to his parents, they lodged a complaint and the students involved, along with their parents, were summoned. The boys were then asked to apologise to the victim and his parents in front of the school assembly in presence of their own parents.
But this was of little help to the victim, as the damage for him was already done.
The father of the victim. in a conversation with India Today, revealed the horrific truth the doctors reported.
“Doctors detected a deep hole in the eardrum. The doctors also told us that he had lost 25 per cent of his hearing ability.”
The incident not only affected his hearing ability but also left him with mental scars. Here is what his father further stated about the victim’s mental state,
“He is not eating properly and he could not sleep after the incident. He is sick and is constantly weeping,”
Incidents like these simply make us question one thing: Where is the world heading to? While the apology may have worked for the school and society, the damage done to the young boy is unrepairable and undebatable.
