Is Dharma Being Sued For Lifting Dear Zindagi From Canadian TV Series Being Erica?

Despite the demonetisation debacle, ‘Dear Zindagi‘ has managed to score a successful run at the box office. There were fans that thronged to theatres to watch the Badshaah play the life coach. And there were viewers who were all praises about Alia and her inspired-from-life character. However, the latest buzz around says, all is not good under the hood!

According to a report published in DNA, Dharma Productions may have been served with a legal notice for copyright infringement from Temple Street Productions who claim that the movie is a replica of their Canadian comedy-drama TV series Being Erica.

Sources also cite that the similarities between the TV series and the movie are uncanny!

 

However, Director Gauri Shinde maintains that the script is an original and is not lifted from any premises. An insider from the Dharma camp also added that,

“Karan and the Dharma CEO, Apoorva Mehta were not aware that DZ was inspired in such detail from the Canadian show. Meanwhile, Gauri maintains her script is original, but the similarities are too glaring to go unnoticed.”

 

Although Apoorva Mehta, CEO of Dharma Productions when reached for a comment, denied any such report and said,

“It’s not true… We haven’t received anything at all.”

Whatever the case, we’re sure the truth shall prevail!
