Parenting is a huge responsibility, after all, it makes you the in-charge of well being of ‘a life’. But unfortunately, many people are not that good at it. Cases of bad parenting keep surfacing frequently. One such terrible case of neglect in parenting has come to light from West Delhi.
A 3-year-old girl was fed alcohol instead of food by an alcoholic father recently, reported TOI. The father, who is a rickshaw-puller lost his wife a year back and has been looking after the child alone ever since.
The neighbors were aware of the drunkard father and his neglect towards the child, who would often feed her alcohol in a milk bottle, whenever she cried of hunger. They placed a timely complaint with the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on its 181 helpline. The minor was soon rescued by the DCW.
She was found lying in her own excreta with her father sleeping in the same room with empty liquor bottles. She was rushed to a nearby hospital soon where the doctors found the girl’s private parts severely infected due to a dirty diaper and poor hygiene, said, officials.
“It’s shocking that the child was given alcohol by her own father and has such extreme injury marks on her body. Alcoholism is the worst disease. Police should immediately take the strongest action against the father,” Swati Maliwal, DCW chairperson told India Today. An FIR has been filed against the father.
After being discharged from the hospital, the girl will be shifted to a shelter home in the city.
Thousands of children in India die of starvation and malnutrition every year. Poor parents are left with no option but neglect their hunger and watch them die. But such cases of utterly awful parenting are heartbreaking.
