Man Awarded ₹40 Crores By Court After A Bar Fight, As He Said It Was Bar’s Fault He Got Drunk

Getting into a fight at a bar is a scene that’s been explored in far too many Bollywood movies. But more often than not, the people involved get arrested and spend the night in jail. Well, a man from Texas who had had his fair share of prior arrests got into just one such fight at the local watering hole.

Daniel Rawls sustained injuries after the public brawl at the La Fogata Mexican Grills, reports TNN. However, in a surprising twist he filed a case against the bar for ‘allowing him to get drunk’, as it subsequently caused a fight. The lawsuit blamed the establishment for continuously serving alcohol to the guy who ultimately had an ugly brawl.

It also claimed the two men were allowed to leave together while they were drunk. The incident transpired in May 2019. The accused was bar owner Lourdes Galindo, and a bartender who were being held responsible for Daniel’s injury. Daniel also alleged that the restaurant didn’t call an ambulance after he was harmed.

In a shocking turn Daniel won the lawsuit and was awarded $5.5 million (Rs 40 crores) for his claims against the bar. One of the reasons for him winning the case was by default as the bar owner didn’t respond to the summons and didn’t attend any of the court hearings.
