Female Cop Who Transformed Herself Into A Man, Marries A Woman In Aurangabad

Undergoing a gender reassignment surgery requires a lot of strength both physical and mental. The procedure comes along with numerous physiological and hormonal changes in the body. Moreover, to start a new life all over again with a new identity but the same family, friends, and people must muster up a great deal of courage. And people who take this drastic step towards such a major transformation are truly an inspiration!

Lalita Salve, a constable from Rajegaon village of Majalgaon tehsil of Beed district in Maharashtra, noticed some unusual changes in her body, four years back. So, she underwent a few medical tests that suggested the presence of Y chromosomes in her body. Men have a combination of XY chromosomes while women have XX chromosomes in their DNA.

After figuring out that her body contained Y chromosomes, Lalita decided to undergo gender reassignment surgery and transform into a man completely. Accordingly, she underwent the first stage of sex reassignment surgery (SRS) at the state-run St George’s Hospital in Mumbai in May 2018. After undergoing the remaining two rounds of surgery in the following years, Lalita finally switched to a new identity and name, Lalit last year.

She recently tied the knot with a woman from Aurangabad in the presence of her family and friends. “I got a rebirth after three-stage sex-change surgery. I have started a new life after my marriage and will now live happily. My family members and relatives are happy with my marriage,” Lalit told India Today.

Salve had earlier filed a plea for leave for her sex-change surgery at the police department which was rejected as the eligibility criteria for men and women in the police force is different including the weight and height. Salve then moved the HC seeking a direction to the DGP to grant leave.

The court, however, directed Salve to approach the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal since it was a service matter. Salve was finally granted the leave for her sex-change surgery after several efforts. After the surgery, Salve was accepted as a male constable and was granted all the benefits associated with the post.

Lalit Salve is surely an inspiration for many. We wish Lalit has a happy married life ahead!
