World’s 2nd Largest Cigarette Company Will Pay You Rs 4,200 For Every Smoker You Persuade To Quit

Either you know somebody who smokes or you are a smoker yourself (passively toh kar hi lete hain)! Sorry to cut it to the chase but apart from all the public service advertisements and messages, smoking is a killer that is still on the loose! If you think I’m exaggerating ask people who have lost loved ones to it…

No, I’m not here to preach (although I see no reason why I can’t). My intention is to convey an important piece of information and I’ll do it, minus my feelings for the habit of filling up lungs with smoke!

Philip Morris International, world’s second largest tobacco company, has said it wants people to quit the habit. And to make that happen the Marlboro manufacturer is paying people £50 (Rs 4,200/-) to persuade smokers to quit!

You heard that right. Peter Nixon, managing director for Philip Morris UK and Ireland said,

“We are absolutely serious. One day we want to stop selling cigarettes.”

The company which seems to be fully committed towards designing a smoke-free future pays ‘freelancers’ for successful conversions (being a non-smoker from a smoker) and helps people give up the dangerous habit.

Mr Nixon added,

“A freelancer is someone who helps people to give up, because for people who have been smoking for many many years, to change that habit is not easy. Freelancers take them through a seven day programme, like a coach. Each day the freelancer helps them through this change.”

To help the process, Philip Morris has even launched “heat not burn” product in UK wherein smokers’ demands are to be met through potentially less harmful alternatives to cigarettes. To elaborate, it heats up the tobacco giving users a nicotine hit but without the smoke!

In any way, this is arguably the first in the history of trade and commerce. I mean, where can I sign up as a freelancer?!
