Drivers In China Kill The Pedestrians They Hit On Purpose. You’d Be Amazed To Know Why.

That China is a weird country is a very well know fact. The culture and customs never cease to amaze people outside of China. But here’s one more.

While driving a vehicle, if the driver injures a pedestrian by mistake, he would reverse the car and make sure the victim is killed.

This is really weird. But wait. You might be wondering the reason behind this. The Chinese language even has an adage for the phenomenon: ”It is better to hit to kill than to hit and injure.” And they follow this rule too seriously.

Here are some ‘accidents’ that were witnessed:

A BMW raced through a fruit market in China. Suddenly, a 2-year-old girl was knocked down by the BMW driver. Seeing this, the grandmother of the 2-year-old shouted and tried to stop the driver. But alas! The driver went forward, took a reverse and ensured that the 2-year-old girl was killed.

And there are many incidents like these. It is not an urban legend. China really follows this.

Haven’t the police noticed it?

Yes, they have. These kinds of incidents are recorded in CCTV cameras. The footage shows drivers deliberately killing the victims. In fact, there are news channels that report these incidents but it’s deemed normal.

Reason?

The compensation factor and economical factors. If you injure a person, you’d have to pay for the crippled person for an entire lifetime (maybe). But if you kill the person, you’ll have to pay only the compensation which is just a one-time thing. Like, if you kill somebody by hitting them on the road, you’d have to pay money ranging from  $30,000 to $50,000 and the matter is over.

One of the motorcyclists said, ”If I hit someone, I’ll hit him again and make sure he’s dead.”

Any punishment?

Sadly, no. Despite the eyewitness testimony, most of the times, the police consider this as accident and NOT murder. They reject the charges of murder if a complaint is filed. So, the drivers kill because not only is it economical(one-time compensation) for them and also they are not charged with murder.

Any changes in the law?

China and Taiwan have passed laws to eradicate these hit and kill cases. They have reformed Article 6 of its Civil Code. China’s legislature has also decided to term these as murders.

But these incidents still continue. The drivers after floutingly committing such acts say that they confused the victim with some inanimate objects. Hence, it becomes difficult to be proven guilty in Chinese courts.

Well, this is really sad. Killing a person just for economic reasons is not validated at all. Do they have no remorse of killing a human being? What a painful death a victim undergoes because of this! Seems they have no ounce of humanity factor in them.

You are in dire need to change your laws, China.
