Ex-cricketer, Chetan Chauhan Became The New NIFT Chairman And Twitter Exploded With Humour

Indian politics proved once again that if you’re working for the ruling party, you’d would be entitled to positions for which you’re clearly not eligible.

Former Indian cricketer, Chetan Chauhan made his way as chairman of the National Institute of Fashion and Technology which has left a lot of people questioning the criteria for the selection.

Chauhan has played 40 test matches for India and is remembered as an opener along with Sunil Gavaskar has confessed himself that his got the position because he is a BJP MP.

Here’s what Chauhan was quoted saying:

“This is a Government of India appointment. The names (for the post of chairman) are sent by the Ministry of Textiles…preference is given to people in the party (BJP),”

However, that’s not all what is odd about his accession to the post of chairman at NIFT. Chauhan says that he would manage his time by giving 60% of his time to the Delhi and District Cricket Association, 30% to NIFT and 30% to his business. Clearly math is not one of the strong points of the former cricketer.

When asked about fashion, this was Chauhan’s view on the entire concept:

“My fashion sense is not being flamboyant but well dressed. I am not dashing fashion-oriented because I have to go with what suits my age. But I like to dress up smartly and well.”

Such buffoonery doesn’t go overlooked in today’s world of social media and Chauhan, as expected had to be butt of all the jokes Twitter could come up with. Here they go:
