Nowadays, restaurants across India are following this trend of serving huge thalis to their customers. Many eateries call it the ‘Bahubali Thali’. There are nearly 20-30 (sometimes even more) items in this one thali and it is not possible for 1-2 people to finish it. It would take nearly a family of 4-5 people to finish the meal.
But in many cases, a good amount of food is wasted by the customers who order such kinds of thalis. Because it is not humanly possible to eat so much food. And towards the end, the food gets cold and people wouldn’t want to eat it anyway. Those who want to take the food home pack it. For those who don’t, the food ends up either in the garbage or is given to the poor.
A Twitter user recently shared a video of a similar kind of ‘Bahubali Thali’ being sold at a restaurant in Chennai. The thali costs Rs 1399 and the video shows two groups of 4 people each who ordered two thalis. So 4 people would be sharing a thali. From biriyani to curries, rotis to dessert, the meal has an overwhelming amount of food.

Responding to the video, a lot of people expressed how people eventually tend to waste a lot of food from the thali and this trend of serving huge platters should immediately stop.

Amazing and enticing… I sincerely hope, people finish the Thali than waste food. In these times of food inflation, any food wastage is a crime against humanity

Who eats such gigantic thalis? Isn’t it a waste of food?

Sad, what a waste of food, when half the world is starving ☹️

True. Lot of food wastage would be there. Plus all good will get so cold. I hate when food is served cold

Most families will end up wasting a lot of food. Not a good idea.

What an unbelievable waste of food unless at least 4 people are sharing it.
Frankly I hate to waste even a morsel of food once it’s on my plate.

I think this nonsense should stop at earliest. It is waste of food as either it cannot be finished or people overeat.
Also it was never our culture to have food in this way.— abhi (@hey_its_abhi) July 18, 2023
