Even in this day and age, if you ask anyone what would they do when they see a crime happening they say that they’ll call the police. The crimes maybe as small as stealing or as heinous as physical assault, we still trust in them to uphold the law of the land. However, if the cops start emulating the criminals, how long do they think the general audience will side with them?
According to Times of India, a woman police constable in Chennai was caught shoplifting in a super market. However, once confronted, her reaction was quite appalling.
On Wednesday, the employees of a super market in Egmore, Chennai witnessed constable Nandini stealing some chocolates and mosquito repellent cream. The employees told the manager about the incident but she rushed out of there. However, they didn’t give up as a staff followed her. Upon frisking Nandini, chocolates were found in her pocket and she was asked to give a written apology.
However, things obviously didn’t end there. An hour later, Nandini returned with her husband and three others. The husband attacked the manager brutally. Although the super market’s employees tried to stop the husband, they couldn’t prevent the manager from suffering some fatal injuries. And they did all this with the knowledge that they were being recorded by the super market’s CCTV cameras.

We expect the police to be level-headed enough to enact justice according to the law. But Nandini’s actions are the exact opposite and proof of her blatant disregard for her position as a cop. That said, this is certainly an isolated incident and she’ll probably face departmental action for not only stealing, but also getting an innocent man beaten up. And she should be schooled immediately because a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch.
