Chandigarh Lawyer Pays Monthly Alimony Of ₹25,000 To Ex-Wife As A Bag Full Of Coins

Relationships are the biggest illusions in the world! I’ll tell you why. In the beginning, you’re all Jaanu, Shona, Baby etc. But the rose scented haze doesn’t last very long, does it? Slowly the pink filter lifts and you start picking at every tiny aspect of your bae that annoys the fuck out of you. Suddenly, his little jealous tantrums aren’t so cute and her indecisiveness at picking a dinner spot is just irritating. Whereas once you would do anything to bring a smile to their face, now you could go above and beyond to frustrate them.

This is why divorce courts often see some really amusing scenes play out between the estranged couples. Add to this mix a scorned lawyer in the role of the husband and you’ve got pure comedic gold.

The Chandigarh district court witnessed some drama unfold yesterday after a Punjab and Haryana high court lawyer handed over his ex-wife’s monthly allowance in the form of coins.

According to Times Of India, the lawyer handed over a sum of ₹24,600 in a bag in the denomination of ₹1 and ₹2 coins. In fact, the alimony case had to be adjourned for the 27th as the amount could not be counted.

Well, as expected, the ex-wife did not find much humour in the situation. She said:

“This is a new way to torture and harass me. it is a mockery of law.”

Ummm… Ok.

This divorce battle has been going on since 2015. At the time, the court had directed the husband to pay his ex-wife a monthly allowance of ₹25,000. When he failed to do so, she took the matter to the high court, where he was ordered to pay her ₹50,000 as he had skipped the payment for two months. The ex-wife would not accept his argument that he didn’t have the financial capability to pay her the amount every month. She claimed he was lying as he was a practising lawyer with a number of high profile clients.

She also claimed that he had several properties in his name. If that’s true, he seems to have found a treasure chest of coins in one of them.

The woman frustrated at her ex-husband’s antics says that she’s in dire need of money. She is disgruntled that after having to go through so many adjournments, he has now handed over the money in coins. “What will I do with this money? No bank will accept this,” she says.

Our crafty lawyer, on the other hand, has a solid justification for his move. He says:

“It’s nowhere written that the money has to be given in denomination of ₹100, ₹500 or ₹2000 notes. i have given three juniors to count the money too.”

What more can a man do, right?

He did save her the trouble of having to count coins worth ₹400 though. He gave the remaining ₹400 in the said ₹25,000 monthly payment, in the form of ₹100 currency notes. He’s so thoughtful, na?

His wife is going to have to up her game to get back at him for this one. This is a true master at work here.
