Millionaire CEO To Quit His Job So His Wife Can Work While He Takes Care Of Their Kids

A few days ago, Twitter was flooded with examples of Indian men who have been supportive of their wife’s achievements. This is a breath of fresh air since the traditional, patriarchal mentality of society dictates that only men can be the primary breadwinners of the family. But men who are secure in the success of their spouse are overturning that notion.

As per a report in The Indian Express, a 38-year-old executive named Rubin Ritter said that he plans to retire in the year 2021 so that his wife can pursue her career as a judge while he takes care of their children. Being the co-CEO of online fashion retailer ‘Zalando’, this move can cost him up to $112 million (800 crores approx.) in options from 1 5-year incentive program set up in the year 2018.

“I want to devote more time to my growing family,” Ritter said as the multi-millionaire couple is expecting their second child. “My wife and I have agreed that for the coming years, her professional ambitions should take priority.”

Incidentally, his company ‘Zalando’ was shamed last year by the AllBright foundation for their lack of female members in the company’s management board. Zalando has since then pledged to lift its proportion of female employees at its executive levels to 40% by the year 2023.

With Ritter stepping down, AllBright’s managing director Wiebke Ankersen said that there is “a true chance for Zalando to show they mean what they said” by filling his position with a woman.

Men choosing to step down from their high-profile careers to support their wives is a rare sight. But kudos to the men who are indeed taking conscious steps to stand by women everyday!
