Benedict Cumberbatch is known for playing a lot of fantastic roles on the big screen and on stage. He became Smaug for ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, Dr. Strange for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and played two scientific geniuses, Alan Turing and Stephen Hawking, effortlessly. However, recently he was caught embodying another one of his famous roles in real life. Yes, I’m talking about Sherlock Holmes.
According to The Sun, a mugging took place near Sherlock Holmes’ fictional home, 221B Baker Street and it was none other than Benedict Cumberbatch who came to the rescue. The Uber driver, Manuel Dias, who witnessed it all said,
“I was taking Benedict and his wife to a club — but I didn’t know it was him at first. I went to turn down into Marylebone High Street and we saw four guys were pushing around a Deliveroo cyclist. My passenger jumped out, ran over and pulled the men away. They turned towards him and things looked like getting worse, so I joined in.”
First off, how do you not recognise Benedict Cumberbatch? He has the most distinct facial features. And secondly, going by his actions, Benedict Cumberbatch is Sherlock Holmes.
After the brief identity crisis regarding Cumberbatch, everyone started to recognise him and that’s when things got, as Dias describes it, “surreal”.
“He stood there instructing them in the street, shouting, ‘Leave him alone’. It was only then I recognised Benedict. Then it all got a bit surreal. Here was Sherlock Holmes fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street. They tried to hit him but he defended himself and pushed them away. He wasn’t injured. Then I think they also reÂcognised it was BeÂneÂdict and ran away.”
After the entire ordeal was over, Benedict went over to the Deliveroo cyclist and asked him if he was okay and hugged him as well. Dias lauded Benedict’s bravery and selflessness, and called him a superhero. However, the humble Benedict simply said he was doing what anyone else would’ve done in his place.
Benedict is loved by all and when word of his heroism spread, the internet went crazy.
1. You don’t have to imagine anymore.
Can you imagine you're away on your bicycle to deliver a Chinese takeaway to someone and four boyos attack you and hit you with a bottle and then you hear someone yell LEAVE HIM ALONE and you look up and Benedict Cumberbatch has come to your rescue?

We have a tendency to view actors and actresses to be all high and mighty. However, Benedict Cumberbatch is proof that we need to look beyond those stereotypes. I’m not saying that it isn’t dangerous. But it’s empowering and incredibly motivating to see that someone who you see as a hero in reel life, is a hero in real life as well.
