Valentine’s Day. Isn’t it a little too overrated? A part of you is saying yes, it is, but deep down your hollow, very single soul, you know that it’s overrated for a reason. Being single on Valentine’s Day is just the worst. So, to compensate for that, we single people do, rather promise to do things that never really pan out. And at the end of the day, you’re still the same single person, just with an embarrassing memory up your sleeve.
Here are 8 expectation vs reality situations of being single on Valentine’s Day.
1. Expectation: Being too cool for school and saying that you’re too evolved to celebrate this day
Reality: Exploiting torrents of all possible Nicholas Sparks films because you are just as cliched as the next guy
2. Expectation: “I’m celebrating V-day with my dog because I love him/her”
Reality: “STFU stop barking”
3. Expectation: Saying that you’re independent and you’ll buy yourself flowers and chocolates
Reality: Buying flowers and chocolates and putting ‘your secret admirer’ label on it
And then, you Instagram it.
4. Expectation: Planning a night out with your single friends and having a blast
Reality: Watching couples all around and drowning in all the cheesiness and love
And your own tears.
5. Expectation: “I’m going to keep myself really busy this night and do something productive”
Reality: #ApnaHaath…
6. Expectation: Making a fancy meal and enjoying your time pampering yourself
Reality: “Dominos, aap idhar delivery karte hain?”
7. Expectation: Hoping that your crush asks you out as a big surprise
Reality: Your crush finds V-day as an appropriate day to introduce you to his girlfriend
8. Expectation: Wondering if you’ll ever find someone with whom you can celebrate this cliche occasion
Reality: Doesn’t matter if you’re single or not, because you’re pretty darn awesome either way
So, beat it, couples. *puts the cool glasses on*
