Over 500 People Are Working On Bahubali’s Sets, And It’s Definitely Bigger Than The 1st Part!

Baahubali was a raging success all over the world. Being one of India’s most expensive films to be ever made, the quality and the grandiose presence of the film resonated very well and made millions of fans the world over.

But ever since Baahubali’s credits rolled, people have been impatient for the next installment, the conclusion to the epic Baahubali saga. And now, we have the first news from the sets of the sequel from art director Sabu Cyril.

Sabu Cyril has confirmed that about 500 men from his crew are currently working on the set and props of Baahubali 2, and the work is in full swing.

Cyril said he gave up 2.0 starring Rajnikanth because the commitment required for Baahubali 2 was the equivalent of doing 10 films at the same time. Cyril said,

“It’s one of the most challenging films for me, being a period film and war drama involving such huge sets, characters, warriors, jungles, animals and royalty. But I am enjoying the challenge and have learnt the equivalent of another 10 years of work while working on part 1 and 2.”

Cyril says that they’ve employed lesser computer graphics, and have relied heavily on realistic looking sets, props, and dummies.

“The success of my work lies in the fact that it fits in so seamlessly that it’s not even noticed. Most people thought that a large part was computer graphics in Baahubali when actually it was real sets and props we constructed and used.”

Sabu Cyril had his work cut out for him, for researching new materials, new ways to incorporate cultures and requirements into the narrative, and to get materials and find the best fit for those requirements. He said it felt more like working in a laboratory, with experimentation and trial always going on to achieve the best results.

Sabu Cyril says that they’re using a lot of modern, high-tech materials to achieve a sort of dual target: that they are feasible and also look realistic. This he uses for props, dummies, whole sets, and other items as well.

“When a horse falls in battle, it’s not a real one nor computer graphics. I have actually made horses out of materials so that they can be shown falling, without hurting real animals. We create real looking human dummies shown falling in moving armies or people thrown from heights.”

Sabu Cyril spoke of using durable and modern materials such as Integrated Rubber Foam for making weapons which look realistic, but don’t hurt the actors; carbon fibre; they’re 3D printing a lot of equipment; flexi foam for animal and human dummies and it is going to be ultra grand. Cyril spends his days talking to the director, chalking out concepts to turn into reality, meeting with different people to procure new materials and manpower.

We absolutely cannot wait for Baahubali 2 and it sure is going to be huge!
