The world is full of assholes. That’s a legit statement nobody denies. But when a perfect stranger does something so heartwarming for you, faith in humanity gets restored. And thanks to the internet, we get ours restored every couple of days with stories about strangers being kind to each other! Like the story of this one artist and a cancer patient on Imgur, the online photo sharing community!
Meet Guy Kopsombut (@4amshower), an illustrator from Nashville, whose cute, inspirational comics are really all about finding the silver linings in stormy dark clouds that overcast your life!
Made you smile, didn’t it?
Well, Kopsombut also shares his work on Imgur, where one day, a comment caught his attention!
(FYI, ‘OP’ means ‘Original Poster’ as in the person who has originally shared the post that is being talked about. In this case, OP is the artist!)
Imgur user @FrozenFoodGuy has genetic progressive muscle disease and was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer as well. The post he was talking about was this one….
Awwww, no wonder! It is the cutest!
Well what happened next is even sweeter! The artist, Kopsombut, replied with a rather surprising question!
Can you imagine liking some artist’s work and they asking you if you want their work for free? That’s a huge deal not just for a fan, but also for the artist!
Of course, @FrozenFoodGuy readily accepted this thoughtful gesture!
He even wrote about the whole exchange on his Imgur account!
“So a while back this exchange happened. I was laying sick on chemo in the hospital (first checkup was last week and showed good signs of recovery!) and i got this generous offer! I was allowed to pick a comic and asked OP if he could pick one for me. Instead i got the offer that we both pick one.”
So @FrozenFoodGuy wasn’t just getting one but two prints of the comic! So cool!
The comic that he chose to get printed was one that reflected his struggles with his illness.
“Felt like it reflected my life perfectly! I’ve been going from one medical thing to the other for the past 10 years, and i’m still kicking!”
As for the one that the artist picked, it was super motivational! And the best part, it was customised!
“He picked this one out for me, or rather he made this one for me!! When i saw this on the front page i instantly felt like “huh… this one looks different than what he normally makes… it looks rather personal somehow…” turns out it was!”
Imgur users who read about this entire exchange just couldn’t stop praising Kopsombut, the artist, for his beautiful gesture!
As for @FrozenFoodGuy, he has the comics hung somewhere he can see them and feel motivated every day!
“They’re hanging on the wall right across my bed, so i can look at them every day during my recovery! You made me very happy!”
