Arshad Khan, Former Pakistan Cricketer Now Drives A Cab In Sydney For A Living

At some point, professional cricket players have to face the reality of retirement. Retirement can be a scary time for some as the game of cricket is all they have known.

However, as Arshad Khan has proven, there is definitely life after retirement from cricket. While there are many cricketers who opened restaurants, joined politics, became musicians, the former Pakistan bowler is driving a taxi for a living in Australia.

Do you remember Arshad Khan?

The Pakistan off-spinner, who made his debut against West Indies in 1997-98?

Arshad Khan played 9 Tests and 58 One-Day Internationals (ODIs)in between 1997 to 2006. More importantly, the man who dismissed Sachin Tendulkar, after the Master Blaster scored a century in Peshawar.

A lot has changed in cricket since then.

But, on Monday, Ganesh Birle, shared a sad story on Facebook, which claimed that the former Pakistan off-spinner was seen driving Uber cab in Sydney.

Here is the script from Ganesh’s post:

“He was the driver of our cab and we started chatting, he told me that he is from Pakistan and lives in Sydney. Also that he has been to Hyderabad many times when he was playing for Lahore Badshahs something in ICL. After which I asked him his full name and then I was shocked to see his face which I could partially recognise. I shook his hand and left.He was avoiding the conversation all the time, but at the same time he couldn’t help but talk about his India connection. Imagine he introduced himself as ‘I am from Pakistan but I have been here in Sydney for a long time now’. Also like a good Uber driver he offered us water and stuff when we sat in the car.”

There is no harm in driving a taxi for a living, but this made me sad.

PCB, if possible, please take some action. He deserves a better life.
