Step-parents have a bad rep. I really don’t understand why. Is it stories like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty with evil stepmothers that have conditioned us to think like that? Why do we feel that only biological parents can love us unconditionally? It’s almost 2019 and high time that we bust this myth. And I have just the thing to make any sceptic’s heart melt. This stepfather-stepson Christmass story proves that family bonds aren’t all about blood.
Twitter user @alecyewest wanted to surprise his stepfather this Christmas. He wanted to show him much he cared. So he came up with a wonderful idea to ‘gift’ him adoption papers. And his dad’s reaction is something no words can describe. You have to see it yourself.

This video now has 6.74 million views and 77,000 retweets. I guess deep down everybody realises that DNA has nothing to do with parenting. A father is one who puts his children before himself. He teaches you that relationships require trust and respect. He wears a superhero cape to solve your problems, he fights the world for you if that’s what you need. A father removes any hindrances that lie in your path to success. Biology is just a legality.

There needs to be a better name. Step parents are much more.

4. Not an isolated incident, many more out there
Love to you and your fam. I hope he said “yes.” My step-dad adopted me when I was seven and saved my life. He’s gone now, but he was a father in every sense of the word. Happy for you!

5. Exactly
Stepdads give more than people realise. Big up this guy for recognising his stepdad as the real parent. https://t.co/UPfWlUq2BH

Why even prefix ‘father’ or ‘mother’ with the word ‘step’? If someone has raised you like their own, they don’t deserve a title with negative connotations. Right? Tell us what you think.
