Yesterday, an IAS couple was all over the news for using their power irresponsibly. Sanjeev Khirwar and his wife Rinku Dugga (both 1994-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officers) made headlines for walking their dog at Thyagaraj Stadium, a sports stadium in New Delhi.
It was alleged that the athletes in the stadium were forced to finish their training early so that the couple could bring their dog inside for a regular evening walk.
After they became the talk of the town and were trolled incessantly all over social media, Sanjeev and Rinku were relieved of their duties with the Delhi government and have been transferred to Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh respectively probably as a penalty for their wrongdoing.
Hours after a news report regarding the misuse of facilities at Thyagraj Stadium by Sanjeev Khirwar & his wife Rinku Dugga, MHA has transferred both the AGMUT cadre IAS officers Sanjeev Khirwar & Rinku Dugga to Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh from Delhi respectively: MHA order pic.twitter.com/teMHyNPwhw

As soon as this decision came out, a lot of people online lauded the government’s swift actions:
Brilliant MHA. This will set an example for other high headed babus. Ek ko extreme North me bheja hai aur dusre ko extreme east me. Great. Spouse posting bhi gayi haath se. Ghumao ab kutta pahado aur jungalon me.

High headed babus should learn a lesson. They are here to serve the public and not be masters. #IASCouple https://t.co/crXfQwleK0

However, since the husband and wife were transferred to different locations, people took the hilarious route and enquired, “Where will the dog go?”

Dogs of plains usually do not survive in mountain areas, he'll die soon or eaten by wild dogs…
This shows insensitivity and apathy of Modi govt towards animals.@Manekagandhibjp@PetaIndia @peta https://t.co/iBjtIPdX33

Many Twitter colleagues are of the view that their transfer is not a punishment as they have been transferred to Beutyful places Arunachal and Laddaq, but now husband and wife will be 2500km apart and the 🐕 at Delhi ?? https://t.co/ThiIO37ETl

But a group of people wasn’t convinced with just the transfer as the punishment that too to beautiful locations.
Arunachal Pradesh is a fine place as far as I'm concerned. Why are we sending them bad administrators? https://t.co/V1ErWCjfOV

So transferring to Arunachal and Ladakh is punishment? This is how "New Delhi" thinks about the integral parts of the country? https://t.co/VZ83IcJiam
— Atul Yadav (@Reporter_indian) May 27, 2022
How long will transfers be considered a punishment? This thinking probably from the British Raj days has to change. https://t.co/jbJ1dNUibZ
— Devinder Sharma (@Devinder_Sharma) May 27, 2022
Hardly a punishment 🙄
Give them a flat in Borivali / Dombivali and ask them to report every morning sharp 9 to Mantralaya. That would be a better punishment. https://t.co/HZmAxB6zNo
— Aneesh Gokhale (@authorAneesh) May 27, 2022
Don't treat Ladakh as a punishment ground. This time Ladakh need better IAS because the elected representatives have no real authority to run the UT. For us, a difficult time has already begun. https://t.co/rXZawDxIUg
— Konchok Stanzin (@kstanzinladakh) May 27, 2022
@ANI #kutta #IASCouple #IASOfficer why transfer ??they should lose their jobs . Misuse of public property n tax payer money . I am posted at ladakh for past 2 yrs . Transfer to ladakh is no big deal . Strict action for termination of their jobs https://t.co/8GgcS7RB3w
— amit pande (@amitpande1975) May 27, 2022
While many of us are celebrating, I have following issues with this order:
1. What crime have Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh done to deserve such officers.
2. Are we thinking that Ladakh and Arunachal don't deserve good officers?
3. Why no enquiry set up against them? https://t.co/wYiOnWjHrv

What do you think of this new development in this case? Was it fair?
