Rishabh Pant’s Cheeky Remark To Umpire For Avoiding Slow Over-Rate Fine Gets Twitter Talking

The Indian Premier League 2021 has kickstarted in the country and cricketers are giving their best to retain their spot. And among them is wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant. Pant got the golden opportunity to lead Delhi Capitals after skipper Shreyas Iyer had to vacate his spot and skip IPL this year owing to a shoulder injury.

And since then, all eyes are on the team’s stand-in captain.

Yesterday, even though Delhi Capitals lost the game to Rajasthan Royals, people couldn’t help but talk about Pant’s on-field antics.

During the match at Wankhede Stadium, the on-field umpire caused a delay in resuming the match as he was checking if there was a more-than-allowed number of fielders outside the 30-yard circle, reported News18. That’s when Pant was heard on the stump-mic saying, “That’s 1 minute being taken by you, umpire.”

He reportedly said so in order to finish the game on time and avoid paying the slow over-rate fine. For the initiated, captains are levied with hefty fines if they fail to finish the match on time. Earlier, Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined Rs 12 Lakh for a slow over-rate, reported News18.

Clearly, Pant didn’t want to be penalized, hence, he cheekily notified the umpire about the delay caused by him. His comment got the best of people online who burst out laughing on hearing his sneaky remark.

Even though the Royals yesterday took over Match 7 by 3 wickets against Delhi Capitals, Pant was successful in entertaining people online. All the best for your next matches, champ!
