Apart from mundane assignments, college meant chilling with friends, bunking classes and going for random trips; most of us also dreamt of donning the black satin convocation robe and taking an aerial view picture of the cliché ‘throwing the hat in the air’ picture. But looks like students of Mumbai University won’t be able to live this dream on their graduation day anymore.
Well, Mumbai University has now decided to replace the black convocation robe with a traditional angarkha and red headgear. Yeah, as intriguing as it sounds, the Indian attire, ‘shivkalin angrakha’ has raised many eyebrows.
Here’s what the official convocation dress for Mumbai University looks like:

At first sight, it reminds us of what Ranveer Singh wore as the Peshwa in the movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’. But the likes of this outfit were once worn by the Maratha warrior Shivaji Bhonsle, representing the rich Maharashtrian culture. As reported by India Today, the ‘angrakha’ will have a ‘Paithani border that represents commitment, valour and good governance.’

Although reports suggested that male students can wear ‘sadara pyjamas’ and a ‘saree’ or a ‘salwar kameez’ with a ‘dupatta’ for females; people on the internet were not impressed by the move. They came up with the hilarious interpretations of the look that has left us LOL-ing:

However, there were some that appreciated the idea of going traditional:
Nothing wrong in this outfit. We find it weird because all this while we have just seen black gown.
Those not liking the outfit can happily skip the convocation ceremony.— ✨ (@Bibliogirl03) October 24, 2019

Reportedly, the decision was made by a three-member committee. They considered having the attire made entirely in poly-cotton fabric for comfort. Well, we sure are glad that we were done gramming our convocation pictures last year * sigh *. What do you think about the new dress code?
