It’s safe to say now that the DCEU’s bad days are officially over. After some abysmal entries, they’ve bounced back with the Gal Gadot-led ‘Wonder Woman’ and James Wan’s magnum opus ‘Aquaman‘. And it looks like they’re going to continue this successful streak with ‘Shazam!’.
The movie is directed by David F. Sandberg and features Zachary Levi and Mark Strong. The story revolves around the character of Billy Batson who’s blessed by a wizard to turn into a superhero upon saying “Shazam”. However, the evil Dr Sivana is after him to take away his powers.
It was apparent from the trailers that ‘Shazam!’ will be a departure from DC’s trademark dark tone. But going by the opening day reactions, people are loving this fun and refreshing take on the superhero sub-genre.
Watched #Shazam tonight and it was a blast. I didn't really like the trailer but I went to see it anyways since @PNemiroff was so enthusiastic about it. A heartwarming and highly entertaining movie with a great cast. Go check it out! #movienight

Just watched #SHAZAM and it's really good. Probably the funniest DC movie I have seen. The DcEu or whatever they call it now is on the right track. Great job @ponysmasher 👏👏 pic.twitter.com/vAvhiJdR8w

#Shazam is pure heart. The film invites you to be a child again and enjoy those eyes. Darla and @ZacharyLevi are simply adorable. Billy and Freddy are great. The movie transported me to my childhood when I read those comics and imagined I was that superhero.

Guys, Shazam was fantastic! It exceeded all my expectations. Full of humor, horror and heart, it’s a fantastic addition to the DCEU. #Shazam pic.twitter.com/zIlaqT4UZ1

#Shazam Extremely overhyped, annoying and disappointing sprinkled with yelling cringy jokes for the entire movie without a single memorable or cool action moment = "a perfect DC movie". Then choke on your Aquaman shirts, Watchmen smileys, Batman toys and headless you-know-who.

#SHAZAM is a delight. And probably DC’s most focused movie in over a decade. Silly, fun, and full of heart. And @ZacharyLevi rocks.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy #Shazam was amazing and funny and actually really full of heart I’m so proud of @ZacharyLevi he’s come so far #frombabytodaddy

I didn't love #Shazam
I think I'm superhero movie fatigued.

#Shazam is sweet, touching and super fun. Zachary Levi’s good but Eddie from ‘It’ totally stole the show. I was wondering whether they will include ‘that moment’ in the film and they did it at the end which brought out the kid in me. Good going DC.

This is a great watch for the entire family, so if you've got kids, please take them & your inner child along and have an absolute fun ride, all it takes is one magic word. Go on, say it- #Shazam

Shazam is fantastic. Favourite movie so far this year. So much that wasnt shown in trailers. Zac Levi is perfect as Shazam but Jack Dylan Grazer steals whole film as Freddie. Its like Big meets Superman. Perfect family entertainment. Loved it. #Shazam

What I got from @ponysmasher #SHAZAM is what I got from Donner's #Superman back in the day! You'll believe @DCComics movies can actually be #fun

The character development was one of major pluses in the movie, even the villian's ( Dr. sivana) character was also developed well. Overall a very enjoyable movie. #Shazam

It’s too early to say how successful ‘Shazam!’ will turn out to be. But if it does bring in the big bucks, David F. Sandberg will become an icon for all those budding filmmakers who are making short films and uploading them on YouTube. And of course, it will allow a lot of fans to reject the myth of superhero fatigue.
