Let’s be clear here, Bollywood has ruined musicals for me and continues to make things worse with those horrendous remixes. However, Hollywood has been able to pull me in with creative films like ‘La La Land’, ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’ and ‘Coco’. And the genre is likely to have another delightful entry with ‘Yesterday’.
‘Yesterday’, directed by the one and only, Danny Boyle imagines a world where The Beatles (yes, the band that Bruce Banner refers to) was wiped out of existence. However, only one person remembers their songs.
The film features Himesh Patel, in his theatrical debut, as a budding artist who isn’t getting his big break. However, after his girlfriend (played by the talented and gorgeous Lily James) promises that it’ll happen when the time comes, a freak accident wipes The Beatles from existence and from everyone’s memories. But only Patel remembers it, and he utilises this opportunity to gain fame, money and more.

The weirdly original premise of ‘Yesterday’ caught the internet by surprise and had them rooting for it.

I found this movie trailer genuinely interesting. A struggling singer-songwriter suffers an accident and wakes up in a world where The Beatles never existed–so he starts "writing" their tunes to great acclaim.

This is such a weird, niche premise, I can't help but be excited to see it https://t.co/e5jERq2H8w

Apart from a few missteps in his career (which is subjective, of course), Danny Boyle has created genuine masterpieces like ‘Steve Jobs’, ‘T2’, ‘Trance’, ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and ‘127 Hours’. So, it’ll be interesting to see him take on a musical, with a slice-of-life vibe that only he can pull off.
