After winning the test series down under, India’s return wasn’t quite emphatic due to their loss in the first ODI against Australia. However, the men in blue quickly amended that by sealing a victory in the second match.
Fans cheered as Mahendra Singh Dhoni, along with Virat Kohli (who scored a resounding 104) and Dinesh Karthik, took India over the finish line. And they absolutely lost it when Dhoni finished the match with his trademark sixer.
However, after silencing his long-term critics, now M.S. Dhoni is making headlines for a gaffe during the 45th over the game.
Did anyone notice that dhoni actually didn’t complete the run here? pic.twitter.com/F9KjKiFILc

The incident took place during Nathan Lyon’s over. Dhoni pushed the ball towards long-on and ran down for a single. However, as seen in the video, he didn’t exactly complete the run.
Now, according to Times Now, the ICC rule-book says that a team can be handed a penalty of 5 runs, if the batsman is found guilty of not completing a run deliberately. Additionally, if the Australian fielders would’ve caught this mistake, they could’ve dismissed Dhoni, thereby causing the match to go on a different direction.
Since neither the umpires nor the Aussies caught on to Dhoni’s incomplete run, netizens said “jo ho gaya so ho gaya, abb jaane do“.
If @imVkohli is a champ, @msdhoni is the ace of Indian Cricket Team!
But this just defied their ethics … https://t.co/405BpxLW7s— Anirban Mitra (@mitra_anirban10) January 16, 2019
Aussies were stupid in the 2nd ODI.
First Richardson telling the umpire that India has one less fielder inside the circle and then this. https://t.co/RQ7XsHZVU4— Babar. (@latoo_b) January 16, 2019
Aussies missed a chance !! 🤠#INDvAUS #INDvsAUS #Dhoni #MSDhoni #Dhonism #Dhonified https://t.co/hN6KwILlPH

If no balls weren't enough, umpires don't spot these as well now. Haha! Not to forget the amount of blunderous lbw and soft signal calls that they make.#AUSvsIND#AUSvIND https://t.co/hdXCVuNOJz

If all are notified that MSD wrongly given LPW(pitching outside leg) in the first odi… But the umpires call is the final decision… If that call will be reversed means we would won the First odi too…. https://t.co/tiIW3eAJh1

Could have been a wicket had the bowler realized.

It's not short run, Dhoni definitely have played the next ball from inside the crease, but yeah it was a run out chance missed by Aussie

Given how M.S. Dhoni is one of the most dedicated and meticulous players to exist in cricketing history, it’s obvious that he unknowingly didn’t complete the run.. That’s why, technically and in my opinion, it should’ve been the third umpire’s responsibility to point his out (as he can see the replay). But since, we’ve won the match, let’s forgive and forget and move on to the next one.
