Kid Saved From Slavery By Kailash Satyarthi Is Now A Lawyer Fighting For A Rape Survivor

“That person who helps others simply because it should or must be done, and because it is the right thing to do, is indeed without a doubt, a real superhero.”

This is a quote by Stan Lee that flashes at the very end of ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ and encapsulates the core meaning of being a superhero. And if we take a look at Kailash Satyarthi’s body of work, he’s as much of a superhero as the fictional ones we see on-screen.

Noble laureate Kailash Satyarthi’s Bachpan Bachao Andolan has liberated more than 87,000 children in India from child labour, slavery and trafficking. And he recently took to Twitter to talk about one of them.

Today, my son Amar Lal stood in the court for a 17 yrs old rape survivor. It is our proudest moment as parents of this bright young lawyer who we rescued from inter-generational slavery at the age of 5. He stayed at Bal Ashram until he completed his education. Way to go! pic.twitter.com/qLwO4C40HW

According to a Deccan Herald article, an 18-YO Amar Lal had said,

“I was working to fix a telephone pole when bhaisaab ji (Kailash Satyarthi) saw me. I was five years old when I was rescued by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan. I want to become a lawyer and contribute to the cause.”

And look where he’s now. Bravo, Kailash and bravo Amar!

As reported in a 2016 survey by Save the Children, there’s about 38.7 million boys and 8.8 million who are currently the victims of child labour. Thankfully, people like Satyarthi are making an effort to save them and give them a future that’ll in turn improve the status of our country. So, protest child labour when you can. And if you can’t, then stand behind warriors like Satyarthi and Amar, so that they get the motivation to keep making India a better place.
