What can you say about Saina Nehwal that people aren’t already saying right now, in the wake of her bronze medal win at the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia?

Saina created history as she became the first Indian female shuttler to clinch a medal at the Asiad in an individual event.

But then again, Saina Nehwal is known to be the queen of firsts, and she shows no signs of stopping!

Her bronze medal win at the 2012 London Olympics made her a household name, when she became the first Indian badminton player to have won an Olympic medal.

In 2015, she became the World No.1, the first female player and only the second Indian to do so after Prakash Padukone! She has over 23 international titles to her name, and is also the first Indian to win two gold medals in the Commonwealth Games.

It’s no surprise that she’s one of the most successful Indian sportspersons, with the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the Arjuna Award and the Padma Bhushan conferred upon her. She made a nation obsessed with cricket fall in love with badminton! And that love affair keeps growing stronger by the day!

Currently ranked No. 11, Saina’s Asian Games win has the entire nation erupting in celebration! Her father, Harvir Singh Nehwal even commemorated the occasion by gifting his daughter a beautiful gold and diamond ring!

Saina, basking in all the glory of her win and the love from her papa, proudly showed off the stunning piece of jewellery on her social media accounts.

And it seems like a fitting gift, wouldn’t you agree? The word ‘diamond’ is derived from a Greek word which actually means ‘unbreakable’ and ‘untamed’. A perfect tribute to Saina’s spirit, which is strong and unbreakable like a diamond too!

And everyone seemed to echo this very sentiment. People who saw her pictures just couldn’t help but tell Saina that in their eyes, she was indeed the real diamond, every bit unique in her shine and bringing glory to her country!
