“Winter is coming” is not just a phrase for GoT fans anymore, because winter is literally coming onto us. And if we, on earth, can feel so cold, you can imagine how intensely cold Gods might be! At least these authorities of Ayodhya temple surely think so.
Heaven must be chilly right now because these God worshippers believe that our God’s idols can catch a cold too. Arrangements are to be made for these stone idol representations of our Gods to protect them against the cold.
The Janki Ghat Bada Sthan temple authorities in Ayodhya have installed heaters in the temple to keep the idols warm. Also, hot water is used for the ritualistic Jalabhishek of the idols.

As bizarre as it sounds, it is happening. Even though we are pretty surprised to react to it, Twitter is clearly not. Here’s what people have to say about this unusual arrangement.
1. This could be an act of selfish intent.
Nothing like a cold stone idol to use as excuse for Mahant's own heating needs.#Religion #Hypocrisy https://t.co/9ysSWVT1zc

2. Yeah, I don’t think it’s going to help though.
They need one heater for their brains too. https://t.co/jRi41Q9YPH

3. My thoughts exactly.
In a country where thousands and lakhs of people have to sleep on the pavements without blankets even full clothes at times during extreme weathers, idols are given heaters. With such stupidity of the highest order, no wonder we are moving backwards https://t.co/ADiKtWBc2T

4. We’ll read between the lines.
Hot woter for abhisheka, to whom for god r priests? #justasking https://t.co/uugDrQoTDr

5. Yeah, we’ve come (not)really far.

6. This one’s angry with God’s lack of independence.
Matlab bhagwan khud ko garam bhi nahi rakh sakte?
Just asking, seeing that he built mega bridges in seas when this wasn't even a thing.#Ayodhya https://t.co/TPxyefyOJU

7. Protecting God against his own doing?
But, isn't climate change an act of god? https://t.co/4jasD8qmOZ

8. I think God will want to give the beggar more than what we give Him.

9. Spreading God’s word. The real one.
This is crazy! God, who gives comforts to Human beings, can surely take care of himself in all environmental conditions. He only expects humans to remember & respect him.

10. We’ll need someone to make sure they’re in good health, right?
they should also appoint doctors to keep a check on idols health 24/7

11. Refer to #5 again.
Never heard of such strange things before. It happens in 21st century India talking of space
— vijay banga (@lekh27) December 21, 2017
12. Point well-made.
so you are satisfied throwing away water and electricity at stones instead of real people who desperately need some warmth in cold weather? your god must be very happy at your choices indeed.
— Nirmukta 🌈 (@Nirmukta) December 21, 2017
13. Another speculation of selfish intent.
All Shiva temples and sources Gangotri start in frozen regions (temp goes 20-30C below),would some heaters needed there too. Gods do not need heaters , weak man does. Must be priest feeling cold incapable of doing rituals, takes help of gods name is like degrading Supreme being.
— vijay banga (@lekh27) December 21, 2017
14. Surely this is not the first winter the temple is experiencing.
All those people jumping here without any reason should understand. That's the way you deal with humidity, moisture and dampness from destroying walls and statues. This news has been twisted

15. Yep, that’s the reaction.
— Siva (@HamActor) December 21, 2017
There are no arrangements made for the homeless poor people, who do not have a blanket to cover themselves in this chilly weather. But elaborate measures are being taken to protect the deities against this cold.
On the other hand, we claim that everything in this world is governed by God himself. Aren’t we being hypocrites then? When we should ideally be serving and helping the poor humans who cannot even afford proper clothing or shelter, we are investing resources in making stone idols more comfortable.
Incredible India, indeed.
