The drinking culture in India has become widely popular. I agree, drinking (legally) is a fun social ritual and when done in the right amount, can make you have a jolly good time. Why, you ask? Because alcohol inhibits your senses and lowers all your mental filters. But again, people do stupid things when they’re drunk. Like calling an ex, or driving an ambulance.
You heard it right. A drunk man in Chennai drove home an ambulance instead of his Audi, after dropping an injured friend to the hospital.
As per a report by The News Minute, the person in question was later identified as Nikhil Mintra, a restaurateur living in Palavakkam from Thousand Lights.
Nikhil dropped off his friend, who had injured her leg, at the hospital late on Sunday night. At about 3 a.m. the hospital realised one of the Maruti Omni ambulances were missing and filed a complaint with Thousand Lights police station about the vehicle.
According to the police authorities, he claims that he wanted to take a taxi back home since he left his Audi behind for the friend. However, since he couldn’t find a cab, he casually drove away with the ambulance. His driver later dropped off the van at a different branch of the hospital.
And that, my friends, is how the missing vehicle was found.
Whether he left his Audi behind for a friend, or he mistook the ambulance for his Audi, given that he was drunk, we don’t know. The hospital did not pursue the case, and hence, no charges were registered against Nikhil.
Drinking and driving is NOT a joke. Maybe he was lucky, and yes, the story is quite funny in a way. But no one, no matter the circumstances, should engage in drunk driving.
Now that that is out of the way, we can laugh about Nikhil’s drunken mistake.
