Rape, molestation and sexual violence against women have somehow become the done deal of the day. We hear stories on these issues plastered across newspapers in bold, sensational headlines almost every day. And what’s worse than molestation you ask me— victim shaming.
‘Dangal’ star, 17-year-old, Zaira Wasim shared a harrowing experience of being allegedly molested on a flight from Delhi to Mumbai by a middle-aged man. She shared the incident on her Instagram story and support poured in from everywhere.
Sympathetic to Zaira’s cause, actor Swara Bhasker also shared her remorse on the incident. She tweeted about the shameful incident apologising for adults who let her down.
Absolutely shameful and intolerable. We are now at that point where a 17 year old child has to remind us what is right and what is wrong. Im so sorry that adults around u let u down #ZairaWasim But u keep up the good fight. SO many ppl with u! #StayStrong https://t.co/w6zFI6Rj4J

She encouraged Zaira to not feel overwhelmed and keep up the brave fight.
A journalist, Jagrati Shukla shamed Zaira asking why didn’t she complain to the flight authorities and called the entire incident nothing but a “cheap publicity stunt”. However, replying to her tweet, Swara defended Zaira and shut down the lady completely.
We can always rely on Sanghi media to find a way to support and justify wrong in even seemingly the most simple of ethical cases. Shame on you @JagratiShukla29 #MolestationDefender #Vomit https://t.co/wZhSkmQcnP

But Jagrati took it a notch further and connected Zaira’s horrific incident to something completely off the tangent. She spoke about how we want juveniles to be tried as adults but even though Zaira is 17+ we are calling her a “kid”.

She even managed to connect Zaira’s earlier controversial statement on not wanting to stand up for the National Anthem to this trauma.
Slamming her shut, and making some very valuable points, Swara tweeted saying that this “molestation defender” is delegitimising a child’s trauma by calling her “anti-national”.
Last line being a fantastic example of how this #MolestationDefender @JagratiShukla29 is trying to delegitimise a young girl- yes CHILD’s trauma by suggesting she is ‘anti national’ Congratulations Jagrati.. Didn’t think u could sink any lower but u showed us!! 👏🏾👏🏾👎🏾👎🏾 https://t.co/8ek2MdKZaU

It was also Human Right’s Day yesterday. And talking about the incident again, Swara tweeted calling the journalist out on her bizarre and insensitive statement.
#Humanrightsday2017 A 17 year old girl molested on a flight She posts about her trauma #MolestationDefender (in plurals) try 2 justify the molester in some perverse logic & also bring the national anthem in2 their sick logic. Sorry Ambedkar! We dont deserve u @JagratiShukla29 https://t.co/2FgVmssS48

Twitter rose up in support of Zaira and shammed the journalist for her narrow mindset.
1 . Mallika Dua got straight to the point.

2. Yes, the hypocrisy in our culture is truly mind-boggling.
Exactly ma'am! How can someone be so senseless and ridiculous. And then they'll talk about women empowerment but never work on it. #shameful

3. Yes, it is all about the mindset.
Shame on her being a women journalist..Stinking mindset.. her previous post with pictures of a lady with hardik patel calling them prostitutes reflects derenged culture.

4. Can we finally hold hands and make upwards mobility together?

5. It all comes from the thinking of the person.
Your mindset is cheap, she has uploaded a live video coz she wanted to show with full proof of her molestation done on the "flight" Now india is the country where girls aren't safe on the flights as well & yes women's like @JagratiShukla29 is using her sarcasm on this very issue

6. Yes, some introspection is surely needed.
Cheap publicity stunt ! I think it's time for you to have some serious introspection.

7. That clears all the Airline doubts.
Airline did admit in its statement that they heard her screaming as the aircraft was descending. So, she complained. That a police case wasn't filed immediately after landing and accused collected his luggage and went home, clearly points that no action was taken by the airline.

8. It is truly astounding.
Who are we?
IndiansWhat do we want?
Women safetyHow do we get it?
By blaming and shaming the victim#ZairaWasim— Karan Talwar (@BollywoodGandu) December 10, 2017
I am appalled that media personnel, who have the power to shape the minds in the country, still lives with this archaic mindset. A child has been allegedly molested and it takes a sick human being to connect that to “anti-nationalism”. We salute Swara for taking a stand on the issue!
