Viver Oberoi landed himself in soup over a meme that he recently shared on Twitter. Taking a dig at former flame Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Vivek shared a meme which showed a comparison between the former Miss World’s alleged past relationships and her present family to the exit polls and election results.
Some People never grow up in life …This guy never knew how to respect a woman, and don't think he will ever learn to… Once a loser , always a loser @vivekoberoi #VivekOberoi pic.twitter.com/n6QVQsZgDU

The ‘joke’ obviously did not go well with celebrities and netizens on the grounds of mere chivalry towards a woman and her personal life! Many Bollywood bigwigs lashed out at Oberoi for sharing such a ‘cheap joke’ about a woman and asked him to apologize. Out of the many Bollywood celebs who came forward to bash Oberoi was Sonam Kapoor.
Disgusting and classless. https://t.co/GUB7K6dAY8

Sonam condemned Vivek’s joke and wrote, “Disgusting and classless” on Twitter. Vivek, who could not find anything wrong in ‘light-hearted joke’ took a dig at Sonam reported TOI.
“Yes, I read Sonam’s statement. I feel people do this, sometimes, just to show they’re cool on social media. I want to ask Sonam, how much has she worked on women empowerment in this country? In the past 10 years, we’ve rescued over 2,200 children from child prostitution and forced labor. Post rescuing we’ve empowered them with free education and healthcare,” he said.
“Out of those kids, many are studying with a scholarship in the US, UK and Canada. I feel I’ve done all of this and it’s well-documented, even Forbes has covered this. I’m working on women empowerment (10 years) since Sonam is working on her makeover,” he added.
“I just want to say Sonam that, ‘you’re a very nice person, I have huge respect for your father (Anil Kapoor) and I love him very much. It’s personal advice that please lessen the overacting in your films and lessen overreacting on social media,” he said.
Vivek has, however, apologized for making a joke out of something very unnecessary!
Sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others. I have spent the last 10 years empowering more than 2000 underprivileged girls, I cant even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever.
