A media house has a lot of responsibilities. They’ve got to be the first to break the news, they need to be on their toes all the time and they need to work at the speed of light. That being said, it still doesn’t give them the liberty to be factually incorrect. They just can’t do that. Thousands of people believe in what they say and when a media house messes it up this bad, it is a BIG DEAL.
TOI messed up the whole deal when they reported the incident where Tannishtha Chatterjee called out the show ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’ for making dark skinned jokes on her, repeatedly. They uploaded the picture of Bengali actress Tillotama Shome, who has the same complexion as her.Â
Just to be clear this is not, Tannishtha Chatterjee.
In a Facebook post, Tannishtha spoke about how she felt that the jokes on the show were not to roast but an attempt to mock her colour.
Times of India uploaded the picture of Bengali actress Tillotama Shome and called her Tannishtha Chatterjee right below the picture.Â
To top that, just a few lines below there was the ‘actual’ picture of the ‘Parched’ actress.Â
Yeah, TOI she is the real one.
Tillotama called out TOI with a tweet saying that it’s not very decent to interchange two people who are Bengali and dark-skinned.Â

This post invited a lot of mentions by her fans on how TOI was insensitive and how their approach to news is flawed.
Tannishtha also tweeted and said that it isn’t the first time that this has happened. Â
TOI how can you make such a blunder? Get yourself some people who do not end up putting the first thing they see on Google.
