Sushmita Sen Shares How Practising Nunchaku Helped Her Heal From Addison’s Disease

B-Town actor Sushmita Sen has always followed her heart and done what she felt was right. Be it being a single parent at an early age or getting into a relationship with someone much younger than her, the ever so graceful actor has also handled criticism with love and a smiling face.

But the former Miss Universe felt that she had no fight left in her when she was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition in September 2014, reports Hindustan Times. However, she said that meditation with Nunchaku (a martial arts weapon, traditionally used in Okinawan style) has helped her beat the chronic illness.

Sushmita recently shared a video on her YouTube channel and spoke about her struggle with Addison’s disease. The ‘Main Hoon Na’ actor wrote, “After I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition called Addison’s disease in September 2014, it left me feeling like, I had no fight left in me. A fatigued body filled with immense frustration and aggression.”

“The dark circles under my eyes can’t even begin to explain the dark times I endured for 4 long years. To have steroids substitute cortisol and to live with its innumerable side effects took its toll. There is nothing more tiring than to live with a chronic illness.”

“Enough was enough, I had to find a way of strengthening my mind, allowing my body to follow suit,” she added.

In the video, she is seen showcasing her Nunchaku skills. She further wrote in the caption that the art form has helped her heal in time. “Aggression out, fight back in and pain turned into an art form.”

“I healed in time, my adrenal glands woke up, no more steroids, no withdrawals and no autoimmune condition as of 2019.”

Sharing a life lesson, she wrote, “No one knows your body better than you, listen to it. There is a warrior in all of us, never give up.” She also thanked her teacher Nupur Shikhare for being her rock through the journey.
