There have been multiple times that Sonam Kapoor has been criticized for her statements which were sometimes insensitive and other times just tone-deaf. However, this time she is being criticized for something she said which actually makes a lot of sense. Basically, she is being unfairly criticized. Here’s what happened.
A video of Sonam Kapoor went viral wherein she said that during a religious custom, she refused to feed her infant son honey and had an argument with the pandit ji. She made it clear to him that she wouldn’t feed him honey and would feed him apple puree instead.
This is because, in a lot of books that she read about raising a child, it was mentioned that feeding honey to kids who are less than one year old can be dangerous for them. According to many health websites, honey can contain Clostridium botulinum, spores that can cause infant botulism, a rare but potentially fatal illness. Babies under 12 months of age are at risk, so it is advised not to feed them honey.
However, a lot of people who didn’t know about this criticized her and trolled her for being “woke”.
“had an argument with Pandit ji for feeding Honey to newly born child because i don’t believe in these traditions”, like seriously ??? Wokeism at its peak!! pic.twitter.com/fBbQ7TVGVL

So they call pandit ji, take his opinion and then refute it so they can blabber at events.

According to Acharya Charaka, “Jatakarma Sanskar” is to be performed after the cutting of the umbilical cord. On the first day of birth, the child should be given first feeding of honey and Ghrita consecrated with Mantra as given for this purpose. Thereafter, milk from the right…

Why she went to Pandit ji when she don’t believe in rituals

On the other hand, there were a couple of doctors and medical students who jumped in to support her and her claims. Have a look:
Feeding honey to infants is a risk factor for infantile botulism as far as I know.
What do the pediatricians say?
— Aditya Ganguly MBBS MD (@AdiG1993) September 28, 2023
No honey should be given to newborns. In fact it shouldn’t be given until 1 year. Don’t follow traditions blindly.

First time and probably the last time, I’m agree with her😂
Honey contains bacteria that can cause Infant botulism, rare but potentially fatal illness that can occur in newborn babies. So it’s better to avoid honey in newborn.— Dr Vishal (@DrVish355) September 28, 2023
There is a risk of infantile botulism if honey is fed to new born children .
She is actually right . It’s not wokeism. https://t.co/NhxXpEL4fn— Joey (@DrJoyeeta) September 28, 2023
Even I didn’t allow my kid to be fed honey before she turned six months old

Also, it’s a choice she made. People need to understand when something is #Woke and when it isn’t. I think it’s ‘woke’ to call everything ‘woke’ now.

Absolutely even our paediatrician asked us whether we feed honey cause another indian couple did so.

Instead of relying purely on religious traditions, online videos and articles, it is always best to consult with a pediatrist. In case one needs a second opinion, they can always approach different medical professionals for more well-rounded advice, Don’t you think?
