On Monday, politician and former Big Boss contestant Sonali Phogat was found dead in Goa. At first, it was suspected that she suffered a heart attack, but now officials are contemplating a case of murder, reported India Today. She was 42 years old.

Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, who were Phogat’s two aides, have been arrested in connection to the case. Her autopsy reports showed certain “blunt injuries” to her body and Goa Police have claimed that her drink from the previous night of her death was spiked with MDMA by the two accused.

“At 4:30 am when she was not in control, the suspect took her to the toilet and there is no explanation of what they did for two hours. The duo are arrested. The FSL team will take them to various places. The duo will be produced in court soon. Seems to be that she died under the influence of this drug,” Goa Inspector General Omvir Singh Bishnoi said.

In a CCTV footage that was acquired by India Today TV, Phogat was seen limping into a restaurant, holding a man for support (suspected to be Sudhir Sangwan). An investigation is still ongoing in this high-profile case.

One person who showed immense courage during Sonali Phogat’s last rites was her daughter Yashodhara, who is seeking justice for her late mother. Defying age-old traditions, the young girl carried her mother’s bier on her shoulder and lit the funeral pyre – a ritual that is traditionally done by men, reported News18.

In this difficult moment, Yashodhara made sure that she pays her last respects to her mother by performing the rituals.

Earlier, Mandira Bedi defied traditions and performed the last rites of her husband. The late CDS General Bipin Rawat’s daughters Kritika and Tarini too performed his last rites after his passing.

We wish Yashodhara and her family strength in this difficult time.
