Much of the credit for our everyday safety from possible terror attacks go to sniffer dogs who work for the police and the army. These dogs undergo rigorous training from a very young age and retire only when they are old or injured. Their loyalty and service is something to be inspired from.
Speaking of which, Nashik Police’s sniffer dog Spike retired after 11 years of service in the bomb disposal squad and was given a grand farewell, reports NDTV.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh took to Twitter to post a video of Spike, lying on the bonnet of a well-decorated car. While Spike looked sad, perhaps because he was to leave his family at the force, officers lauded him and took him for a round.
“Nashik Police organized a special farewell for ‘Sniffer Spike’ canine who retired after 11 years of meritorious service, contributing immensely in detecting explosives. He was not just a canine but had become a part of the police family. I salute him for his service towards the nation,” wrote Anil Deshmukh.

या श्वानाला माझा सलाम!@nashikpolice pic.twitter.com/7vD5kfGH8I

Spike, just like other retired dogs, has found a new home and a loving family who is to take care of him for the rest of his life.
