While all of social media was focused on the #EverydayPhenomenal wedding of Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, one other celeb couple were gearing up for their secret wedding. Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi‘s wedding came as a surprise to not just their fans, but most of Bollywood as well.
The couple kept things private right until the last moment and it was only when Neha posted a pic all decked up as a bride with her handsome groom, that the world came to know about their band baaja baaraat.
Luckily, since the wedding, there has been no shortage of #couplegoals Insta posts from the happy couple.
Almost 2 months after their wedding, Neha has finally spilt the beans on their surprise wedding.
Speaking to Filmfare, she recounts how soon after announcing their wedding on Instagram, she received a barrage of messages. She says:
“When I checked my phone after putting up the Instagram post announcing my marriage, I had around 600 messages that read, ‘What the f**k!’ instead of ‘Congratulations’.”
Well, can’t say we’re surprised since that was exactly how we reacted to the news.
Also, turns out that Angad was kind of the reason why their wedding was something sort of a jhat mangni phat vivah affair.
Neha reveals how Angad had always been clear about his relationship with her:
“Yes, it was a surprise to a lot of people. But Angad was clear from the beginning. He said, ‘You’re not someone with whom I want to be in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. So, either we turn this into marriage or we continue being just friends’.”
Look, peeps. Old-school romance is still alive!
Neha also clears the air on their wedding being a hush-hush affair. She says it was more private than secretive.
She says:
“I don’t believe it was hush-hush or secret as much as it was private. Both of us are private people. I hope we can maintain that. It’s going to be hard. But I’m going to try and protect my personal life as much as I can.
By that, I don’t mean dissing completely what’s in the public eye. We just wish to control the amount of information we want to let out about our private lives.”
According to NDTV, speaking to IANS, Neha revealed how Angad had gone straight to her parents to ask for her hand in marriage.
She was quoted as such:
“Angad proposed to me in the nicest way possible wherein he went straight to my parents and then my mom called me saying that he is the nicest guy for you. But back then, I thought it wasn’t the right time and said no to his proposal.
But on May 3rd this year, he asked me to come with him to Delhi. He dropped a hint that we need to settle down and proposed marriage in front of my parents which came as a surprise to both my parents and me.”
Geez, this couple just became my one of my all-time favourite celeb couples.
