All of us are aware of the dark side of social media, be it superficial tweets, cyberbullying, or negative comments. Having said that, the same platforms have enabled a lot of good in society too. One such example is of Mumbai-based Harsh Mandavia and his mom Heena who own a delivery kitchen service named ‘Harsh Thali And Parathas’.
Harsh says, “In May, one of our regular customers Abhinav Chaudhary wished to donate money for feeding 100 people, but he asked me to find the needy people and feed them since he didn’t want to risk going out due to corona risk. So after doing some research, I found a place outside gurudwara in Malad where we did the first round of feeding 100 poor people with a full meal consisting of roti, sabzi, dal, and rice.”
The one-time activity soon became an initiative with the duo preparing and serving meals (lunch and dinner) to 200-250 people daily. He adds,
“In the first two days, we received Rs.11000 and then we started feeding the needy on a daily basis. I kept posting pictures and videos of the food donation drive every week and donations kept pouring in. In 20 days, we received 1.5 lakhs, then it didn’t stop until we reached 3.5 lakhs in 62 days from 5 countries. By now, we have fed over 6000 meals and served more than 15000 tawa rotis (made of whole wheat atta) keeping health in mind.”
