The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is on a novel green initiative. On January 23, it launched an innovative initiative in Najafgarh Zone of opening ‘garbage cafes’ that offer free meals in restaurants in exchange for plastic waste. As of January 28, the SDMC has opened 23 more such garbage cafes.
Under this unique venture, anyone who deposits 1 Kg of plastic waste including empty water bottles, cold drink bottles, plastic canes, and other such items, with these garbage cafes would get a free coupon for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in restaurants partnering with the SDMC. The officials of the south Delhi civic body said that on Thursday, 23 more restaurants were made partners in this novel initiative, Zee Business reports.
In an official statement, the SDMC said, “Intensifying the unique initiative Plastic Lao Khana Khao’, 23 more ‘Garbage Cafes’ were opened in South, Central, and West zones.” Mayor Anamika also inaugurated a cafe At Nathu Sweets situated in Defence Colony. She said that given ‘Swachh Survekshan’, the SDMC has adopted a slew of measures under which the idea of a ‘garbage cafe’ was initiated.
