Women are not safe in the world, and when it comes to our national capital — Delhi — no one seems safe. The city witnesses gory incidents repeatedly and every day the occurrence of such instances wavers our faith in women safety. Another incident that has come to light has triggered the same thought process and we are really furious.
Allegedly, a man in Delhi raped an eight-year-old in a park and witnessing the same crime from a distance was his 13-year-old daughter. The victim has been medically examined and counselled by experts.
The accused, a cleaner at a public toilet, is a widower who lives in Kamla Market area (Delhi) with two daughters.
The incident happened on the afternoon of July 8 when the two kids were playing in a Central Delhi public park. At the park, where his own daughter was playing with her friends, the man is said to have lured an eight-year-old with a chocolate to a secluded area. A Police investigator told Hindustan Times,
The victim went home crying and upon being asked by the mother, she revealed the details of the incident. The parents called the police. The accused was promptly identified, was arrested and booked for rape and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The daughter of the accused, who is yet to give her statement, is said to be quite shaken by the incident and is to be counselled. So is the victim. The action would be taken after directives from the courts. Right now, the attention is to ensure that the rape victim and the daughter of the accused are able to recover from the traumatic experience.
What world are we living in? And, this is seriously infuriating.
