Zara Is Apparently Selling A ‘Lungi’ By Calling It A ‘Flowing Skirt’ For Whopping ₹8200

Indian fashion, for years, is slowly being adopted globally as “style symbols”. Sarees and bindis are now being worn by celebs to up their glamour game and be in on the latest fads. From red carpets to music festivals, we’ve seen divas rocking these traditional pieces. And now, another item has now been added to the list.

Haven’t men in our country looked fabulous in that lungi swag for years? So much so, that we created an entire song and dance on it. Which to say the least became uber popular.

Due to the extremely humid and superly hot climate, desis in the house let go of sticky pants and jeans and instead don the lungi/mundu. Which is a comfortable outfit worn around the waist till your ankles to air all the right places.

To reiterate my point of the lungi fixation, did you know that Lungi is even a name? Yes, there is 21-year-old South African pacer who recently signed with Chennai Super Kings for the IPL called Lungi!

I mean isn’t the lungi iconic?

However, someone who is competing with us for the lungi obsession has to be fashion retailer, Zara. They have come out with a “flowing skirt” which weirdly looks very close to a lungi.

Now before you go rushing to buy the skirt, let me give you a news flash. The item described as a “flowing skirt with draped detail in the front. Front slit detail at the hem. Zip fastening in the back hidden along the seam” is a whopping 69.99 British pounds. Which when converted is close to 8200 INR.

That’s right the same lungi which you can buy for Rs. 300 is packaged as a skirt with a zip for women for Rs. 8200.

Now I know what brand obsession means but I think even jiving to Lungi Dance won’t be fun in a ₹ 8200 “skirt”.
