Yo Yo Honey Singh Attended The #DeepVeer Reception And We Almost Didn’t Recognize Him

Bollywood musicĀ buffĀ or not,Ā all of us have grooved to hit tracks from the movie Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.Ā Yo Yo Honey Singh struck gold with fun partyĀ numbers like Dil Chori and Chhote Chhote Peg. More recently, audiences have been loving his take on an old classic Urvashi. The singerĀ himself has been away from the limelight and hasn’t released an album in 4 years! Which is why when he attended the #DeepVeer Mumbai Reception, we almost did a double take because he looked so different.

This is him performing back in 2015

Bipolar Disorder

In an interview to the Times of IndiaĀ on his birthday in 2016, he explained his absence stating medical reasons. His last music video Desi Kalakaar came out in 2014 starring Sonakshi Sinha and Gulshan Grover.

“I know there were rumours that I was in rehab (for drug overdose), but I was in my Noida house throughout.Ā The truth is I was suffering from bipolar disorder. It went on for 18 months, during which I changed four doctors, the medication wasn’t working on me and crazy things were happening. One year had passed and I wasn’t responding to medicines, until a fourth doctor from Delhi treated me. At one point, I thought I would live in this darkness forever. I had cut myself off from everyone. I didn’t come out of my room, forget stepping out of the house. I had a beard and I didn’t get a haircut for months. For someone who has performed in front of a crowd of 20,000, I was scared of facing 4-5 people. That’s what bipolar disorder does to you.”

Upcoming Single

The good news for fans is that he’s slowly but surely getting back to composing.Ā Here’s a sneak peek for his latest single with T-Series.

He’s sporting a beard, longer hair and looking different from the way he used to. But here’s hoping his music is still as catchyĀ as ever.
